City Halls, Glasgow
Rirey entered the City Halls in Glasgow and saw a very handsome, olive-complexioned boy with dark black hair, sparkling black eyes, and an infectious smile.
“Can I help you?” he said.
“I’m looking for the auditions for the emcee?” said Rirey. “I’m Fath…uh…William…call me Will.”
“Hello, Will,” said the boy. “I’m Rafa! I need you to fill out the audition sheet. You’ll need to hand it to the stage manager before you go on.”
“Uh…OK,” he said taking a glittery, purple clipboard with a fancy, scrolled G and exponent 3.
“Did you bring your song?” asked Rafa.
“Yes, I did. Here it is,” he handed some sheet music to Rafa, who looked at it.
“Oh, great! I love this song!”
“Oh, you know it?” asked Rirey.
“Oh, Will,” laughed Rafa, musically. “You’re not a gay boy are you?”
“No, I’m afraid I’m not,” he replied, blushing.
“No gay male would be worthy of the title of princess if he didn’t know this song!” He laughed. “I can’t wait to hear you sing it. I’ve got a wonderful feeling, you’re going to be the winner. What do you think?”
“Well, uh…I don’t know…”
“You need a luck booster!” Rafa came out from the table and thrust a bare, surprisingly muscular, olive-complexioned thigh in front of Rirey and stretched it in front of him. Balancing perfectly on one foot, he raised the leg straight…right in front of Rirey. “Rub the shamrock tattoo on my knee. It will give you good luck. Go on!” Rirey touched Rafa’s knee quickly and pulled his hand away. “That won’t do any good – go on rub it harder!”
Slowly, Rirey put his hand on Rafa’s knee and rubbed the shamrock tattoo. The smooth softness of Rafa’s skin combined with the rock hardness of the muscles felt oddly satisfying.
Ninety minutes later the announcement came. “Our 2010 Glasgow Gay Pride Parade extravaganza Glitter, Glamour, Glasgow emcee will be…William S. Rirey!”
